Candidacy for Breast Augmentation Surgery in Thailand

Breast augmentation surgery is for you if your breasts have lost some volume due to pregnancy, aging or weight loss, or if you were born with underdeveloped or dissimilarly sized breasts. However, you need to be generally healthy to be considered for breast augmentation. If you have certain health conditions such as diabetes, blood circulation problems and heart and lung disease, you may be less than ideal for the operation. And while women of any age can have breast implants, it is advisable to wait until you have fully developed breasts before considering this type of operation.

Additionally, you need to be mentally prepared f. It helps if you study and learn as much as you can about the procedure as well as the risks that are involved. As well, you need to have reasonable and realistic expectations about the results.

Preparing for Breast Augmentation Surgery in Thailand

During consultation, your surgeon will give you detailed guidelines on the do's and don'ts in preparing for your surgery. Generally, you'll need to keep your body in shape in the weeks leading up to your operation as this will help you heal better and recuperate faster.

You'll likely be asked to regulate or completely stop the intake of certain medicine, vitamins and herbal supplements as some of the substances contained in these items may cause healing complications later on. As well, you have to refrain from smoking tobacco products and drinking alcoholic beverages for at least two weeks before and after your surgery.

It's also very important to know what to expect after your surgery. Your surgeon will give you specific instructions on how to take care of yourself during the recovery period but it's best to be prepared for this phase even before the procedure.

How is the Thailand Breast Augmentation Performed?

There are several methods by which your surgeon can do the procedure and it depends on your preference and your surgeon's recommendation which particular technique to use. In the traditional approach, the implant is inserted through a tiny incision either around the edge of your areola, the natural fold beneath your breast or your armpit. The implant can also be placed above or below the chest muscle but it will be positioned under the milk glands such that your ability to produce breast milk won't be affected.

Another technique that's gaining popularity nowadays is endoscopic breast augmentation. With this procedure, your surgeon makes use of an endoscope, which is a long, narrow tube with a tiny, lighted camera attached to its end. The endoscope and other surgical devices are inserted through an incision made in your armpit or navel. Your surgeon then carries out the operation by manipulating the instruments remotely while monitoring progress through a video display. More and more women are turning to this method because it causes considerably less scarring. Moreover, recovery time with endoscopic breast augmentation is much shorter as compared to that with the traditional technique.

Normally, breast augmentation surgery takes one to two hours to complete and is performed under general anesthetic so you'll be pain-free during the entire operation. It's also an inpatient procedure so you'll be asked to stay an extra night at the hospital following your surgery.

What Types of Breast Implants Are Used in Thailand?

You can choose from two types of implants that are generally used -- silicone-filled and saline-filled breast implants. Each one has its own advantages and disadvantages, and upon closer study of your particular case, your surgeon can recommend what type of implants would best suit you. Aside from the type of material used as filling, breast implants can also be categorized according to their shape (round or teardrop), surface (smooth or textured), and profile (moderate, high, low).

What Should You Expect From Your Recovery?

You'll most likely experience side effects after your surgery but these are just normal and usually minor. Some of these symptoms include soreness, bruising, altered sensation on the nipples and breast skin, numbness, and scarring. Your surgeon will prescribe medication to help you manage any discomfort. He'll also teach you massaging techniques which you must do for about 3-6 months.

The rate of recovery varies from person to person although you can expect to be up and about after a couple of days after surgery. Ordinarily, you can do daily chores and light activities after 2-3 days but you should refrain from heavy lifting, doing strenuous activities, and exposing your breasts to harsh contact until after you've completely healed and feel no more pain in your breasts.

You may notice right away that your breasts have become fuller but final results are usually seen after a few months when healing is complete.
